Both of these vessels are relatively new additions to the Celebrity Cruises fleet, with the 2,850-passenger Celebrity Eclipse having launched in 2010 and the 2,886-passenger Celebrity Silhouette having launched in 2011.
Earlier this week, it was announced the former of these vessels will operate out of Dublin for the first time in 2018. This is the most significant deployment ever made in the UK and Ireland by Celebrity Cruises, and the move will see Celebrity Eclipse become the first vessel from a major cruise line to operate itineraries out of the Irish capital. Voted ‘Best Large Ship’ at the 2015 Cruise Critic – UK Cruisers’ Choice Awards, Celebrity Eclipse is a highly-acclaimed vessel offering a plethora of amenities including a spa, solarium, swimming pools, casino and an art gallery.
Solstice-class sister ship, Celebrity Silhouette, will replace Celebrity Eclipse in Southampton, operating seven and eight-night Norwegian Fjord sailings; 12 to 14-night Scandinavia and Russia sailings; and 13 to 14-night Mediterranean, Canaries and Azores sailings.
Celebrity Cruises Vice president and managing director for the UK, Ireland and Asia, Jo Rzymowska, said: “The performance of the Celebrity Cruise UK and Ireland business has gone from strength to strength in recent years and we are pleased to be able to grow our offering in the region with both Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Eclipse home-porting from here during the 2018 season.”
