Having formed in 2010, Cruise and Maritime Voyages have become renowned for offering itineraries around the world on board a range of small to mid-size vessels. Over the course of six years, the line has developed a reputation for offering customers a traditional and British cruising experience. The fleet’s four ships – Marco Polo, Astor, Astoria, and Magellan – will be joined by a new addition to the fleet, known as Columbus, from May 2017.
One of the distinctive benefits for cruisers sailing CMV is the opportunity to enjoy an adult-only atmosphere on board. However, this rule has not suited everyone and many cruisers have requested that their children or grandchildren also have the opportunity to enjoy the onboard experience. CMV has listened to the feedback of their customers and has subsequently announced that the new addition to the fleet will operate two family friendly itineraries during the school summer holidays.
The first of the two cruises will depart on August 4th, 2017 and take passengers on a seven-night itinerary around the Norwegian Fjords, whilst the second itinerary, which departs on August 11th, 2017, will take passengers to Madeira and the Canary Islands. Each child fare will be based on one or two adults sharing a cabin with their adults.
Like her sister ships, Columbus is not a brand new ship and is currently operating cruises for P&O Cruises Australia under the name Pacific Pearl. She was built in 1989 and has operated cruises under five different names for a variety of lines – with Columbus being the sixth name given to the vessel.
Following a major refit between April and May 2017, the 1,400-passenger ship will be transformed and ready for completing sailings with CMV. The 13-deck vessel will provide 64 luxury balcony cabins and a number of junior suites and, upon joining the CMV, will become the fleet’s flagship.
She will offer a range of lounges, bars, and restaurants including speciality restaurants - Fusion and Grill - and Alfresco Grill, which offers passengers the chance to dine outside. Columbus will not disappoint with regards to entertainment either, with a three-decked central Atrium, Dome Observatory & Nightclub, and a two-tiered Palladium Show Lounge. In addition to these spectacular venues, there will also be a bridge and card room with seating for 100 guests, a fully-equipped gym, and a range of spa treatments available in the Jade Wellness Centre.
