Renowned TV presenter and singer, Jane McDonald, has travelled to some of the most beautiful destinations in the world aboard some of the most luxurious vessels in the industry in her previous appearances on Channel 5. These destinations have included the Mediterranean, Caribbean and along the rivers of Europe and it is safe to say that this celebrity endorsement is a huge boost to the travel industry as a whole.
Last Friday saw the celebrity presenter return for her fourth series, offering an insight into cruising in the land down under. Sailing aboard Holland America’s Noordam, Jane McDonald travelled to a series of spectacular destinations throughout Australia and New Zealand, offering an insight into some of the experiences passengers can enjoy in this part of the world.
Noordam was built in 2006, making her one of the newest additions to the Holland America fleet of cruise ships. The ship offers a range of venues that are dedicated to enhancing the overall cruising experience, with BBC Earth Experiences delivering additional insight into each destination visited; and America’s Test Kitchen, where passengers can learn how to create a range of gourmet dishes.
Some of Jane’s experiences in New Zealand included travelling to Hobbiton – the movie set used for the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit films – jumping off the Sky Tower in Auckland, experiencing the thermal pools of Devil’s Bath in Wai-O-Tapu. Jane also travelled to destinations including Dunedin and Hobart Beach on the island of Tasmania. After exploring New Zealand, she travelled on to Australia, taking the time to climb the bridge and explore the Sydney Opera House.
For the second half of the series, Jane McDonald travelled to South America aboard Silversea’s ultra-luxurious Silver Muse. Having launched just last year, this spectacular vessel offers the pinnacle of luxury cruising, with spacious balcony staterooms, eight gourmet dining venues, and a range of elegant public venues.
While on board Silver Muse, Jane McDonald travelled to destinations including Chile, Argentina and Uruguay. A full insight into Jane’s experiences will be broadcast over the coming weeks, with some of her activities including creating graffiti art in Valparaiso, Chile, and recreating the balcony scene from Evita in Buenos Aires. There was also an opportunity for Jane to travel to the Falkland Islands, where she took the time to speak to some of the residing war veterans.
The cruise industry continues to grow, with many luxurious new ships and an increasing range of destinations added. The celebrity endorsement from Jane McDonald is a huge boost for the industry, with many holidaymakers who may have not previously embarked on a cruise considering one for the first time.
