Disney Cruise Line to visit Cork for first time

Cork

Since launching in Disney Magic in 1998, Disney Cruise Line has brought happiness and joy to many families travelling on the seas. As a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company, passengers are able to enjoy a range of experiences that are not too dissimilar to those they might experience in one of the many renowned theme parks located around the globe. The line has even introduced an exclusive privately-owned Bahamas island – Castaway Cay – to selected itineraries.

These ships have travelled far beyond the Caribbean, bringing childhood favourites to ports in every continent around the globe. The last couple of years have seen these vessels dock in ports across the UK and Ireland including Dover, Newcastle and Dublin, and 2018 will see the introduction of yet another new port. Cork, located at the innermost point of Ireland’s Lough Mahon, will play host to Disney Magic for the first time.

Ireland’s third largest city is home to a number of landmarks, many of which depict the area’s cultural and artistic vision. There are galleries, cathedrals, churches, parks and much more to be explored during a visit to this fabulous city.

The call to Irish city will be incorporated into a new 12-night British Isles cruise, which will see Disney Magic depart out of Dover in September 2018. Along the way, she will stop in a variety of ports including Dublin Kirkwall, Liverpool, Newcastle, Greenock and more.

Captain Michael McCarthy, Commercial Manager at the port of Cork, said: “After years of marketing the region and port capabilities, we are delighted to say the hard work has paid off and we are very excited to welcome Disney Cruise Line to our port in 2018.

“I have no doubt this call will be one of many into the future as we grow our relationship with Disney Cruise Line.” The captain also stated that Disney Magic has been built with ‘families in mind’ and that he hopes this itinerary will offer a unique and beneficial opportunity for the British Isles.

As reported in Travel Weekly, a spokesperson for Disney Cruise Line said: “Cork invites visitors to connect with Ireland’s ancient past, with historic sites like Blarney Castle, where visitors can kiss the famed Blarney Stone.”

The introduction of Cork comes as part of a wide range of new destinations and regions for Disney Cruise Line which includes itineraries in Alaska and the Caribbean.

Year after year, the cruise industry continues to present new lines, new ships and a wider range of itineraries that continue to reach out to a broader range of audiences.
