ITV’s “The Cruise” has delivered a fascinating insight into the daily operation on board two Princess Cruises ships: Regal Princess and Royal Princess. Following the ship as it sails around the Mediterranean, not only does the programme offer a glimpse of the ship’s interior, but also showcases many of the issues that arise for the crew and how they are addressed. With the show proving to be a popular hit, Channel 5 is now looking to attract viewers to its brand new show which will offer a similar insight.
The former Loose Women presenter, Jane McDonald, will be hosting a new four-part TV series which is set to launch on Friday 10 February at 9:00 pm. Cruising with Jane McDonald will see the presenter guide viewers around a number of ocean vessels and river cruise vessels. The series will debut with Jane McDonald exploring MSC Cruises’ MSC Divina – one of the newest vessels to sail for the line having launched in 2012. Viewers will enjoy a behind-the-scenes view of the ship’s operation as she embarks on a seven-night Caribbean cruise.
Following episodes of the series will see Jane McDonald explore the life and operation on board a wide range of vessels. She will join passengers on a range of cruising experiences including a journey to the Isle of Mull on board Majestic Line’s Glen Tarsan; on a Danube river cruise onboard Uniworld’s S.S. Maria Theresa and; on an Alaskan cruise with Holland America Line’s Nieuw Amsterdam.
Having risen to fame following her appearance on BBC’s The Cruise, in 1998, which showcased her role as an entertainer on board Galaxy – once of Celebrity Cruises, now sailing as Mein Schiff 1 having transferred to TUI in 2009. Since The Cruise, Jane McDonald has enjoyed a career as a singer and a presenter on a number of daytime TV shows – perhaps, most notably, Loose Women, which she co-presented from 2004 to 2014.
Her new role in Channel 5’s travel log series will see her embark on a series of journeys to see how much cruising has changed since her role on board Galaxy, as well as revealing why Brits continue to see cruising as an ideal holiday choice.
Antonio Paradiso, Managing Director of MSC Cruises for UK & Ireland, said: "We hope that viewers are inspired by the show to consider taking a cruise and it is a great introduction for those who are new to cruising, showing them what they could experience -- exploring the world and creating unforgettable memories."
