The traditional British seaside is where a lot of holidaymakers flock to during the summer season, with the promise of golden sands, extensive piers, fish and chips, mini golf and much more. This is something that has often been missed by cruise passengers embarking on a tour of the British Isles, with other destinations including Dover, Liverpool, Belfast, Edinburgh and the Scottish Isles often proving to be more popular.
However, one line has opted to take passengers directly to one of the UK’s most popular beach towns for a slice of traditional British seaside flair. Last month, guests sailing aboard the ultra-luxurious Seabourn Quest were able to enjoy a unique call into the Norfolk coastal town of Great Yarmouth. Docking into the Outer Harbour, guests were picked up by coach and whisked to some of the town’s most significant attractions including the Time and Tide Museum and the Golden Mile.
Speaking to ITV News, Great Yarmouth’s Deputy Mayor, Kerry Robinson-Payne, said: “This will be the first time that some of our American visitors have experienced a traditional British seaside, and we’ve laid on a special, action-packed itinerary to showcase our rich history and fun attractions.”
Great Yarmouth Port Director, Richard Goffin, said: “The cruise industry in the UK is going from strength to strength, which makes it a key sector for us to expand into at Great Yarmouth and market it as a destination for cruise operators.”
The 450-passenger Seabourn vessel offers a range of luxurious and elegant features including warm and inviting lounges, spacious accommodation options and gourmet dining venues. Each passenger is also able to enjoy personalised service on board, with a crew of 335 catering to each individual request.
Seabourn Quest’s visit to Great Yarmouth is the first of series of calls into the Norfolk seaside town, with plans for further calls throughout 2018 and 2019. The slightly larger ship, the 604-passenger Seabourn Ovation, will call into Great Yarmouth in September 2018, while Seabourn Quest is pencilled to return in July 2019.
More and more British destinations continue to be added to itineraries throughout the continent and this indicates a high level of interest from cruise passengers. Other destinations added to itineraries in recent years include Hull, Southend, the Hebridean Islands, Lerwick and Holyhead.
