P&O Cruises to operate first Arabian Gulf Season

When it comes to cruising, P&O Cruises represents the quintessentially British sector of the industry. With a total of seven vessels and the recent announcement of Adonia rejoining the fleet after a year sailing under Fathom, P&O Cruises can offer a range of holidays across a number of different-sized ships.

The primary focus for the line has been towards cruises out of UK ports along with fly-cruises to the Mediterranean and Caribbean regions. These fly-cruise regions will now be added to in 2019 with a brand new series of sailings in the Arabian Gulf. This is a first for the cruise line, which is set to base the 1,822-passenger vessel within the region and sail to destinations including Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the UAE, as well as Bahrain and Oman.

Oriana will sail out of Dubai for a series of five sailings, with a total of 18,000 UK guests able to embark on holidays around the Arabian Gulf. Itineraries are set to incorporate a range of experiences that are synonymous with the region including camel racing, riding across the dunes and visits to mosques, museums and souks. It is also worth noting that, as a sun-class ship, Oriana has been specifically for operation in warm climates.

P&O Cruises will partner with Emirates to fly guests over to Dubai, where guests will be able to admire impressive sights including the Burj al Khalifa – the world’s tallest building. From here, guests will embark on a 10-night sailing around the Arabian Gulf, taking passengers to Sir Bani Yas (UAE), Manama (Bahrain), Khasab (Oman), an overnight call in Abu Dhabi, and Salalah and Muscat (Oman).

In addition to the five itineraries, Oriana will also operate two repositioning cruises to and from the region – with durations of 20 and 14 nights respectively. It has been confirmed by Paul Ludlow – senior vice-president for P&O Cruises – that, if successful, the line will extend the programme for a second season in 2020/21, between November and April.

Whilst the warmer months have provided plenty of options for cruisers in the UK – including the Mediterranean, Baltics and Norwegian fjords – the winter months have been somewhat limited, with Caribbean and world cruise itineraries. It is hoped that the Arabian Gulf will offer a fresh alternative and act an as ideal and safe option for anyone who has ever considered visiting the region.

Cruising offers a safe, reliable and easy way to explore the world. It is these reasons and indeed many more that has ultimately led to the continuous successful growth of the cruise industry. More new ships are being built all the time and new destinations are being introduced in a bid to supply demand.
