If you have been lucky enough to experience an ultra-luxury cruise, you will have entered a world of sublime opulence, where every fine detail is taken into account. Each line has made strides in recent years to offer new ships and new products in a bid to maintain fresh and appealing to passengers. This week was the turn of Silversea, with the line confirming it has ordered a new ship and has unveiled potential plans for two more.
The confirmed new vessel, which will be named Silver Moon, will be built at the Fincantieri shipyard and is set to launch in 2020. Upon launch, the vessel will be the 10th addition to the Silversea fleet and will become the sister ship of the established Silver Muse. It will accommodate 596 passengers and cost somewhere in the region of €310 million to build.
Silver Moon will be built in a similar style to Silver Muse, but will offer a few minor adjustments to the restaurant areas. One of the most popular venues on board the ship is the Relais & Chateau restaurant – where guests can enjoy outstanding French cuisine in the only restaurant of its kind based at sea and it is hoped that this will make a welcome return on board the new build.
Ensuring each ship has a minimal adverse effect on the environment is a paramount factor in the 21st century and the line has confirmed that the new build will a ‘Green Star 3 Design’. This means it will be designed and built in such a way as to prevent air and water pollution.
It has also confirmed that a few additional – yet to be confirmed – surprises will also be confirmed prior to the ship’s launch.
While Silver Moon will operate classic itineraries, Silversea is currently the only ultra-luxury line capable of offering both traditional-style sailings as well as expedition journeys to regions such as Antarctica. There are plans in place to enhance the line’s expedition fleet, with the first step being the refurbishment of Silver Cloud.
