Silversea orders new €320million ship

Silversea is currently one of four lines that offers sailing experiences that are defined as “ultra-luxury” – a cut above the remainder of the industry. The line, along with Regent Seven Seas, Seabourn and Crystal Cruises, is renowned for going above and beyond in terms of the onboard service provided for passengers on board. This means that passengers can enjoy a larger amount of personal space in their accommodation, gourmet cuisine, a higher crew-to-passenger ratio and much more.

Many of these lines are looking to the future, with more vessels scheduled for delivery over the next ten years. Silversea is no exception to this, following the line’s announcement to launch the fleet’s 11th vessel in November 2021. Confirmed as Silver Dawn, the new build will become the second addition the fleet’s Muse-class, which will be headed by Silver Muse – which launched in April 2017 – and Silver Moon – due to be delivered in 2020.

The contract for the new build, held with the Fincantieri shipyard of Sestri Ponente in Genoa, is valued at more than €320 million. She will be fitted with all-suite accommodation options that are synonymous with her sister ships, as well as delivering a unique sense of onboard intimacy. Guests on board will be able to enjoy authentic travel experiences to some of the world’s most spectacular destinations.

Silversea Chairman, Lefebvre d’Ovidio, stated: “Following the extraordinary success of Silver Muse, we are delighted to announce Silver Dawn as the 11th ship to join the Silversea fleet. Silver Dawn will bear the same hallmarks of quality that guests currently enjoy on our 6-star ships. We look forward to welcoming guests aboard in November 2021. It was my father’s dream to grow Silversea to at least a 12-ship fleet; today, we are one step closer to fulfilling his vision.”

Fincantieri CEO, Giuseppe Bono, said: “It is a great satisfaction for our Group to see an ambitious project like Silver Muse establish itself on the market and get the highest appreciation from an exclusive and prestigious customer like Silversea, which today confirms the company’s trust in us. Thanks to this partnership between the shipowner and the shipbuilder, based on the quality of the product, our leadership position in the cruise sector is further strengthened, not only from a technological point of view but also for the commercial ability to find the best agreement with our partners.”

The Fincantieri shipyard has successfully built and delivered a total of 82 cruise ships since 1990, with another 44 currently either being designed or built by the ship’s yards.
