What to expect from Harmony of the Seas

Last week, Harmony of the Seas arrived at British shores and a number of travel agents were able to get an exclusive feel for what she has to offer. The 6,410-passenger capacity ship is the largest cruise ship ever built and joins Royal Caribbean’s Oasis-class fleet alongside sister vessels Allure of the Seas and Oasis of the Seas. With a gross tonnage of 226,963, she is marginally larger than her sisters, both of which measure in at 225,282 gross tonnes.

Other than the sheer size of the vessel, many customers will be wondering what makes her different to other Royal Caribbean vessels. This week, Cruise Franchise takes a closer look at some of the distinctive features that make Harmony of the Seas the ideal ship to cruise on this summer.

Ultimate Abyss

Ultimate Abyss

Perhaps the most eagerly anticipated brand new feature of Harmony of the Seas is the towering slides located at the back of the ship. These spiralling dry slides take thrill-seeking passengers on a journey that will see them descend ten decks from deck 16 to the Boardwalk. At 100 feet tall, this is the tallest slide at sea.

Perfect Storm Waterslides

Another brand new feature for Royal Caribbean on board Harmony of the Seas is the three colourful water slides. Known as the Perfect Storm, these three slides have each been individually named: Supercell, Typhoon, and Cyclone – the latter of which features a large bowl which swirls passengers around before taking the final plunge.

Splashaway Bay Water Park

Harmony of the Seas

Youngers guests can get a slice of the action with their own Splashaway Bay water park, which features a variety of colourful slides, water cannons, waterfalls and much more.

Central Park

Harmony of the Seas

Whilst children are having the time of their lives in the respective Adventure Ocean kids clubs, or with the other amazing amenities on offer, adults can enjoy a little quiet time together in Central Park. It is amazing to think that such a beautiful, lush and green area can be found on a cruise ship. With 10,587 plants, 48 vine plants, and 52 trees; this really is one of the most remarkable areas onboard.

Royal Theater

Harmony of the Seas

Harmony of the Seas is home to a huge 1,400 seater theatre, which will leave passengers wondering if they are in the West End. This spectacular venue will play host to the debut of the hit musical Grease.

Wonderland Restaurant

Harmony of the Seas

This popular dining venue first made its debut onboard Royal Caribbean’s Quantum class ships, and now guests sailing on Harmony of the Seas will also be able to sample the superb culinary creations. Here, chefs have created a menu which focusses on the senses. The bizarre dishes include Liquid Lobster and Vanishing Noodles.

Bionic Bar

Harmony of the Seas

The second popular Quantum-class venue to debut on board Harmony of the Seas is the Bionic Bar, where two robotic arms swing into action to create a cocktail of your choice. Simply place your order or design your own drink via an iPad and watch the robotic bartenders go into a frenzy of swinging and shaking.

With so much going on onboard Harmony of the Seas, there is certainly something to enjoy for all passengers. It is a perfect option for multi-generational families who enjoy doing their own thing during the day and reuniting in the evenings for dinner and a show in either the Royal Theater or the AquaTheater.

Additionally, this mesmerising vessel will be sailing out of Barcelona throughout the 2016 summer season. Harmony of the Seas will homeport in the Spanish city and offer 34 seven-night sailings in the western Mediterranean, the first of which will depart on 7th June 2016. In November, she will reposition in Port Everglades, Florida, and offer a range of seven-night western Caribbean sailings.

Harmony of the Seas is Royal Caribbean’s second addition in 2016, having followed the debut of the fleet’s third Quantum-class vessel Ovation of the Seas.
