Royal Caribbean’s Quantum Class ships were first unveiled to the world in 2014, following the exciting launch of Quantum of the Seas. The new 168,666 gross tonne vessel came complete with a range of new and never-before-seen-at-sea features that blew passengers away. The list of amenities includes the “North Star” observation platform, which offers a glimpse out to sea or in-port from above the ship. This came in addition to the RipCord by iFLY skydiving simulator, the multipurpose SeaPlex arena, bumper cars, robotic bartenders and much more.
Next year will mark five years since Quantum class ships were first unveiled to the world and already the line has plans to upgrade the current offering. The next ship to join the Quantum class, known as Spectrum of the Seas, will be regarded as a Quantum ultra-class ship and will offer a distinctive range of new and exciting features in addition to that are already established aboard her sister ships.
While Quantum of the Seas, Anthem of the Seas and Ovation of the Seas all offer a rotation policy based on four main restaurants – these being Silk, American Icon, The Grande, and Chic – Spectrum of the Seas will offer just one main dining venue. In details revealed just last week, the new main dining venue will feature an impressive staircase that will enable passengers to make a grand entrance.
Another newly announced feature, which has already made its debut aboard Independence of the Seas, is a bungee trampoline with VR experience. Passengers will be able to bounce high above the top deck of the ship while also entering a virtual universe filled with bright and colourful lights. Situated on the ships ‘Sky Pad’, it has been described by those lucky enough to try it as “the bizarrest, most surreal experience you’ll probably have”.
Another popular established feature to be carried over from another vessel is the Ultimate Family Suite, which made its debut aboard the newly launched Symphony of the Seas. This amazing accommodation option is the place for families looking to get the most out of their cruising experience. This two-deck suite comes complete with a colourful slide, Lego wall, separate kid’s area and a number of large flat-screen TV screens. Aboard Spectrum of the Seas, the Ultimate Family Suite will be a little wider and feature a number of currently unannounced new features.
It should also be noted that Spectrum of the Seas is initially being catered specifically towards an Asian market and will be based in Shanghai as of June 2019. She will replace Quantum of the Seas, which is set to relocate to Tianjin for the summer 2019 season prior to repositioning in Singapore in November. Prior to this, Quantum of the Seas will undergo a multimillion-dollar revitalisation project, which will see a number of new – currently unannounced – features added.
