2017 may have been a quiet year in terms of new ship launches for Royal Caribbean, but there are new and exciting plans already in place for the next few years or so. Between 2018 and 2024, six new vessels will be added to the Royal Caribbean fleet, with two new additions for each of the Oasis and Quantum classes. There will also be the introduction of a new class of ship, known currently as Project Icon – which will mark a change from traditional fuels to liquefied natural gas.
Next year, cruisers will be treated to the fourth addition to the Oasis-class fleet, Symphony of the Seas, which is set to homeport in Miami. These record-breaking vessels have become recognised as the largest cruise ships in the world and offer a multitude of amazing amenities. Popular features such as the Central Park, water park, ice-skating rink, water slides and the Abyss dry slide are all set to make a return, along with new, currently yet-to-be-confirmed, wow factors.
Last week saw Royal Caribbean take another step towards the future of cruising, with work beginning on the line’s fourth Quantum-class ship, Spectrum of the Seas. This exciting new ship will be constructed at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, with the first piece of cut steel marking the beginning of this exciting project. To make her distinctively different to her sister ships, it has been confirmed that Spectrum of the Seas will be known as a Quantum Ultra ship.
She will be designed specifically for guests in China and will operate itineraries with the Asia-Pacific region. Previous Quantum class vessels have seen amazing additions such as bumper cars, surfing simulators, sky diving simulators and levitating viewing pods and Spectrum of the Seas looks set to offer amenities that are every bit as incredible.
